The most common question I see about Squidoo is how to make money on the site. There are so many ways to profit on this Web 2.0 site, but I wanted to go over the primary ones for you today.
The first thing you have to understand about making money on Squidoo is that your content counts the most. For a brick-and-mortar store, it’s all about location, location, location. Your Squidoo lens has one primary purpose: to educate your visitor.
A side effect of their visit, it you may earn money in one of the following ways:
1. Squidoo ad revenue — Squidoo has implemented a system where they get to keep the site free free you and still earn money at the same time, allowing you to profit in the process. At first, everyone rebelled against the Google ads and other advertising methods that were placed on their lenses. What I have found is that I make a bit of that money, but it’s not the bulk of my profitability on Squidoo.
2. Affiliate marketing money — 1 of the best perks of placing your content on Squidoo is that they openly allow you to have affiliate links. I despise the way hub pages cracks down on how many links you can have going to which site. I feel that should be a decision the creator of the page makes. Squidoo doesn’t care if you link to ClickBank, Share a Sale, PayDotCom or any other affiliate program. You can even make lenses that do nothing but review existing products.
3. Direct product sales — have you written your own e-book? Do you have private-label writes articles to sell? Are you selling items on eBay, or your own website? Then Squidoo can help you amp up your direct product sales. One of the first things I do what I have a new e-book or articles that ready for my PLR Mini Mart is create a lens about it. I get indexed quickly and Google, and I start to see that my lens is being found for important keywords.
4. Freelance service cash — know how I got my start on Squidoo? I was actually showcasing my ghostwriting skills to prospective clients. When I hit the $10,000 mark, I realized there was a lot of profit potential in the site for other means, not just freelance advertising.
5. Sell space on your lens — lenses on Squidoo have their own page rank in Google, which is very important. If you have a lens that has a page rank of four or above, you may be able to sell a spot on your lens to offer a back link to a hungry marketer in your niche.
6. Sell off your lens for cold, hard cash — in my book Flip That Lens, I teach people how to create Squidoo lenses for hungry niche marketers, and then flip them for immediate profits.
There are many ways to profit from Squidoo — but first you have to learn how to use the system. If you don’t yet have it, I highly suggest you invest in a resource that teaches you the Squidoo ropes. Squidoo now has an Answer Deck, which is a user compiled page that lists all of the helpful lenses for new lensmasters.
However, most of the lensmasters are not in the same type of marketing realm that you are. They may be happy with the money they make on Squidoo, but it may not be a full-time job to them, or they may despise marketing altogether.
In my book, Social Networking on Squidoo, you’ll learn exactly how to set up a Squidoo lens from scratch, along with the strategic elements that you need to know to help perform to its best ability in your niche.
Well now that my schedule’s clearing out a bit, I’m back to building lenses to flip this week. I created some lenses last week specifically for products I wanted to promote from ClickBank and Amazon, and now I’m listing them for sale with you!
All you need to do if you’re the buyer is switch my affiliate ID for your own, save, and republish and you can take it from there.
Each lens is selling for $125, so if you want it, be the first to email me back and I’ll tell you where to PayPal the funds.
Lens #1: http://www.squidoo.com/policeexam
I chose this product from ClickBank because it seemed to do well. This lens was picked up by the search engines almost immediately and is being found for the following keywords/phrases in Google:
police exam 911, commonly misspelled words in law enforcement, free police exams, free police exam test, preparing for the entry level law enforcement exam Michigan, how to pass police exam, free police exam 911, study guide to pass michigan state police written exam, how to pass police psychological exam, passing police psych exam, police exam ma practice test, free police exam, failing the police exam, police sargent promotion, commonly misspelled words on police exams, environmental police exam preparation, sample police test
Lens #2: http://www.squidoo.com/wirelessreading
This was built for the Amazon Kindle, but you can change it to reflect any wireless reading device if you want to!
Lens #3: http://www.squidoo.com/what-is-blogging
With this one, I’m promoting The BOA Method and Blogging to the Bank. I believe with the BOA, you’re going to need to get your own affiliate ID but they said they might set up on ClickBank, so maybe they’re there already. The Blogging to the Bank link is a simple ClickBank link.
I also created a poll for my blogs since I have so many, but you can alter the links to be your own blogs! It also has an RSS feed
in it for a blog (right now, mine is in there, but put your RSS feed in for your own).
SOLD: Lens #4: http://www.squidoo.com/freelancewritingjob
This lens promotes several products I found in ClickBank. This is a great topic! On this lens, I’m promoting 2 ClickBank products PLUS my Building an eBook Empire book, which you can get your affiliate ID code for through PayDotCom.
I also have a section promoting PLRMiniMart, which does not have an affiliate program, so you’ll want o change the links to reflect a PLR site that has an affiliate program if you want to make money from that section). It also has an RSS section where you can add your own feed in there for teaching people how to make money online.
SOLD: Lens #5: http://www.squidoo.com/effectsofsmoking
This lens promotes so many ClickBank products, I can’t even count them! Check it out - I have text links, poll links, StickyNote
links, and even links in the description area of the Amazon spotlight products! It’s overflowing with potential commissions.
Oh! And at the bottom I an RSS feed to one of my health blogs, but you can alter that to reflect your own!
SOLD: Lens #6: http://www.squidoo.com/treatyeastinfectionbecauseofantibiotics
Okay, the lens URL is a little long, but I did it because of keyword search terms I found and this is a good selling topic in
ClickBank, too!
SOLD: Lens #7: http://www.squidoo.com/whatdohemorrhoidslooklike
Again, this URL is based on keyword research - it’s a big deal to a lot of people! This lens promotes another good seller in ClickBank.
Note to all: All of these lenses have been tagged with 40 highly relevant keywords, and they all have images for the modules (try finding images for hemorrhoids and yeast infections!)
So be the first one to email me and let me know the lens by NAME, not number, and I’ll let you know if you were the one first in line.
By the way, sometimes I’ll have 1-2 people email about a lens and they flake out for whatever reason. I don’t mind, expect for the
fact that others find it listed later again and say, “I didn’t email because I thought it’d already be gone!”
So be sure to email if you want it because if someone backs out for whatever reason (PayPal’s not cooperating with them, they can’t come up with the money, etc.), I’ll contact the next person on the list.
Have a great Saturday!

Here’s one of my new faves - the Twitter Follow module. I like to microblog some traffic back to my various domains. Microblogging is when you use one of the brevity-based social networks like Twitter or Pownce and you have a limited amount of space to post and your fans or followers can stay updated by you.
Right now I have about 400+ followers. I wrote a short $10 report called Twitter Traffic, so many of those are from my customers. So I use Twitter to post for these occasions:
1.) Whenever I have a new lens made.
2.) Whenever I create a new Hub Page.
3.) Whenever I list a new PLR pack on PLRMiniMart.com.
4.) Any time I have a new product launch.
5.) For personal and fun reasons (you can’t be spammy and do nothing but promote or people will hate you).
So Squidoo helps you build your followers list with the Twitter Follow module. Here’s what it looks like:

Right on my lens, my visitors can see my latest Tweets (posts on Twitter). And they can click the Follow TiffanyDow link right below the module and be taken to my Twitter profile page, where they can then click the follow button right below my name.
As I build my followers, I build my micro-traffic and I build my income.
Nifty!

Okay, second module I love is the Amazon Spotlight module. I don’t even USE the regular Amazon module anymore because I like how this one looks comparatively, and I feel it’s far more effective.
With a regular Amazon module, all you’re doing is basically building a list of products. It’s no different than if the visitor went to Amazon.com themselves, typed in a keyword, and saw a results page (although you’re limited in how many can be displayed).
I like Amazon Spotlight because of what it does for the social networking aspect of web 2.0 sites - it’s a true peer recommendation. You’re not telling them, “Here are some things you might like,” but “Here’s the single, best, most important thing you can buy on ____________ subject!”
Here’s how the two modules stack up - the top one is a regular Amazon module and the bottom image is a Spotlight:

If I’m putting something in the spotlight that I, myself haven’t read or reviewed (if it’s not a book), then I always go to the reviews and pull a portion of a real customer review to quote in the comments section. Otherwise, I write my OWN review about why that product is so special.
I also make sure on either Amazon module that I display everything BUT the used price. I don’t like it when it says something about being able to buy it from $0.01 and up.
But that’s just me! You can choose whatever you want to display. I also might nix the star ratings if the ratings are poor, but here’s the thing - if the ratings are poor, I wouldn’t recommend it anyway (unless I had personally used it and felt differently than the other reviewers).
I’d also like to point out that I use Amazon Spotlight (and yes, even regular Amazon on some lenses like my toy lenses or Christmas lenses) in addition to using Fluffanutta’s SquidUtils Amazon product feature.
Have fun playing around with the various modules available. It’s one thing I L-O-V-E about Squidoo compared to Hub Pages - OPTIONS! Let me know which one you prefer to use - Regular or Spotlight Amazon? And why? Add your comments below!

P.S. Here’s a Lens You Should Visit: http://www.squidoo.com/freelancewritingjob

Me personally, I kinda like it! They’re trying to give us more flexibility in managing our lenses, which is good when you like to have task lists and you have a ton of lenses like I do spread out across multiple accounts.
When you log into your lensmaster account, you’ll see is your daily digest. It’s a quick snapshot of your lens health – what’s thriving, what’s sinking. It’ll tell you how many lenses you have and what their visitor count totals were.
On the left sidebar, you’ll see certain lens lists – you can click to see what needs editing, what lenses are earning the most co-op money (or the least), and you can click through on the label lists.
See now, you can attach labels to your lenses. I love this feature! So I might have a label that says, “IM lenses” for all my Internet marketing lenses or “Charity lenses” for my missing children’s lenses, and so on. I’ve been waiting for this and SquidStaff delivered (as always). Lenses can be labeled with more than one label, by the way.
The second tab at the top of the page brings you back to more of what you’re used to – the list of all of your lenses, complete with the rank, ratings, earnings, etc.
Then you can click on the stats tab to see stats (but why not just click through from you’re my Lenses list)?
“My comments” is where comments go before you approve them if you have your guestbook set up that way. And like My Groups, My Profile, and My Favorites – they’re all the same as they used to be for the most part.
The big changes I see (that I like) are the daily digest and ability to label and categorize your lenses to help you better manage them.
So go test it out – it’s a great way to stay on top of your lens management!

Squidoo’s always changing things up module-wise. But let’s talk about each module and see how I feel you can maximize your use of them when it comes to marketing and making money online.
The Write/Text module is of course, a staple for every lens (or it oughta be). You have one built into your lens in the form of an introduction module, but you need to add more (I never add less than 2 more along with other modules before I publish).
Here’s an example of a Text/Write module:

If you’re only going to use the single, built in image option, then keep your module short - like the one above. If it goes any longer, upload an image to your server and use HTML code to insert a left-aligned image halfway down the content. You’ll notice in the above image, I’ve included the standard photo option, but I also have bolded text and hyperlinked text (to a ClickBank product). I used basic HTML code to do that as well.
What else can you do with a Text/Write module?
You can use the space to hyperlink an image of your opt in box to your landing or squeeze page. I do this on my lens at Information Entrepreneur. We used to be able to have iFrame in there to actually capture the name and email addresses, but it doesn’t work like that anymore.
Here are the codes you can use in your Text/Write modules (make sure you change the brackets [] to arrows <> in all of these examples):
To hyperlink text to a website: [a href="http://www.yourdomain.com" target="_blank"]Text you want hyperlinked[/a]
To hyperlink an image (like an opt in box): [a href="http://www.yourdomain.com"][/a] - Now on this one, the alt tag can be whatever keyword the image represents (or the niche). You can change the alignment to left if you want it on the left side of the Text module. And you can play with the hspace until it’s as big or small as you want it - this is the space between the picture and the text that wraps around it.
Other codes you need to know: [b]bold[/] or [i]italics[/] or underline
Take time making your text module attractive and not so monotonous. Break it up with links, images, and fonts that keep the flow of reading moving.
Enjoy!

I got bogged down in projects and didn’t flip anymore lenses until today.
I read this huge article in our local paper about gas savings and then started doing some research and found that it gets an enormous number of searches each month! Then I go into the Warrior Forum and see marketers talking about it being the next big niche (and this is why there are so many products sprouting up on ClickBank for it now).
So I made two lenses to sell for $100 a pop:
1.) http://www.squidoo.com/gasmileagedevice - That last link on the
page promotes that product on ClickBank that’s doing amazingly well!
2.) http://www.squidoo.com/waystosaveongas - The first link is for
that same CB product.
I’m also considering creating an eBook of my own for this niche - especially since gas prices are going nowhere but up!
